    Master of Science in Occupational Safety, Health and Wellbeing

    The aim of the programme is to enable practitioners to develop holistic approaches to enhancing organisational safety and health through improved worker engagement and wellbeing.

    The programme is designed to enhance the students current understanding and application of occupational health and safety management by enabling him or her to develop a more holistic approach to influencing worker and organisational performance through the contemporary concepts of worker engagement and wellbeing

    Upon successful completion of the course, students will be awarded the Master of Science in Occupational Safety, Health and Wellbeing by the Cardiff Metropolitan University.

    The course duration is 15 months (Part-Time), which you will be going through 7 modules. 100% assignment-based as stipulated in the respective module plans.

    COURSE DETAILS

    Master of Science in Occupational Safety, Health and Wellbeing consists of 7 modules.

    The course is accredited by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) as meeting the requirements for Graduate Membership. Graduates may then progress to Chartered Membership status on satisfactory completion of appropriate work experience and professional assessments.

    Outline for Worker Safety, Health and Wellbeing

    The aim of the module is to evaluate the positive and negative influences the workplace has on the safety and health of workers and evaluate the evidence for creating an all-inclusive approach to improving safety, health and wellbeing at work.

     

    Outline for Risk Perception, Assessment and Communication

    The aim of the module is to enable the student to evaluate the impact a wide range of factors including psychological and psychosocial influences have on the perception, assessment and communication of risk. The module will include hazard identification, risk assessment, mitigation factors and their general impact on safety, health and wellbeing.

     

    Outline for Measuring Safety, Health and Wellbeing

    The aim of the module is to enable the student to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of health, safety and wellbeing programmes through the appraisal of individual and organisational performance outcomes.

     

    Outline for Developing Interventions & Influencing Behaviour

    The aim of this module is to enable students to compare and contrast approaches to influencing worker behaviour and construct a strategic response and multidisciplinary approach to improving safety, health and wellbeing in the workplace.

     

    Outline for Worker Engagement and Wellbeing

    The aim of this module is to enable students to develop strategies for improving worker engagement and wellbeing and to critically evaluate their influence on organisation outcomes.

     

    Outline for Applied Research Methods and Design

    The aim of the module is to enable students to develop their research skills in order to apply principles of evidence-based practice, and design and carry out robust research projects.

     

    Outline for Research Project

    The aim of the module is to enable students to design, plan, undertake and present research in a relevant study area, demonstrating a systematic understanding and critical awareness of their discipline and area of professional practice.

    Class Periods

    Full-time
    Monday to Friday: 8.30am – 11.30am and/or 12.15pm – 3.15pm and/or 3.30pm – 6.30pm
    3 hours per session. 5 sessions per week. All specific programme schedules will be reflected in the timetable.
    Part-Time
    Weekday (Monday to Friday)
    Sessions will be conducted from 7.00pm to 10.00pm
    and/or
    Weekend (Saturday and/or Sunday)
    Sessions will be conducted within 9.00am to 6.00pm
    3 hours per session. 1-2 sessions per week. All specific programme schedules will be reflected in the timetable.

    REQUIREMENTS

    WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

    Academic Level: A Bachelor’s Degree in health, science or other management-related disciplines with a minimum 2 years of work experience in occupational safety and health sectors or a Graduate Diploma in occupational safety and health or other Level 6 equivalent qualifications in related subjects.For mature students under exceptional routes, they must be at least 30 years of age and possess a minimum of 8 years of work experience in relevant fields

    English Proficiency: IELTS score of at least 6.5 or pass the DIMENSIONS’ Certificate in Academic English Level 6 or pass the English Proficiency Test at equivalent level conducted by DIMENSIONS or its equivalent. English proficiency may be considered to have been met and an IELTS score may not be required if applicant possesses a highest qualification where English was the sole medium of instruction.
