    Digital technology is now of significant importance to organisations and on this course we consider how it can be applied. For the organisation, to become digital means not just consideration of new transformational-enabling technologies but also of human resources, business processes and strategy. On this course we cover mainstream management functions alongside digital business.

    Outline for Management Theory and Leadership
    After completing the module, the student should be able to:

    • Critically evaluate the eclectic and sometimes non-linear nature of management theory and explain how management theory has evolved to date
    • Explain the meaning of the term ‘organisation’ and understand methods to categorise particular types of organisation
    • Explain what is meant by the term motivation (in the workplace) and critically contrast a range of content and process motivation theories
    • Critically contrast the leader and managerial roles and the functional silos with the integrated approach to management
    • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the contingency approach to management and explain the congruence model of organisational behaviour based on the system paradigm
    • Evaluate the POMC approach to management and contrast mechanisms used to organise the workforce and work

     

    Outline for Economics and Finance
    After completing the module, the student should be able to:

    • Demonstrate in-depth understanding of business and project management
    • Critically evaluate sources of economic and financial information
    • Analyse financial statements and identify key trends
    • Critically analyse economic and financial information to determine quality of performance
    • Critically appraise budget processes for revenue and capital
    • Critically evaluate approaches to management information control and decision making

     

    Outline for Strategic Management
    After competing the module, the student should be able to:

    • Critically evaluate the key models and tools of strategic analysis
    • Critically appraise the main approaches to the achievement of competitive advantage
    • Relate the origins of strategic analysis to the development of clear organisational strategy with justification and strategies selected
    • Develop strategic plans that demonstrate an appreciation of structural, cultural and behavioural issues involved in successful change
    • Synthesise the input of current strategic aims within the strategic decision-making process

     

    Outline for Management Competencies
    After completing the module, the student should be able to:

    • Apply and develop the management competencies from the presented competency framework
    • Analyse business operations from the perspective of transformational and value adding activities
    • Synthesise and present business improvements
    • Doctorate programmes in relevant disciplines offered by Universities elsewhere and subject to Universities’ approval
    • Develop awareness and appreciation of the holistic nature of business and the impact of multi-perspective perceptions through role play in business simulation environment
    • Critically reflect on the application of the management competencies in business scenarios

     

    Outline for Managing Business Research 1
    After completing the module, the student should be able to:

    • Demonstrate the ability to use appropriate search strategies across a range of databases in the electronic library to locate information relevant to business management
    • Extract and synthesise relevant information from a range of business management sources using the appropriate academic conventions
    • Demonstrate an understanding of research terminology, particularly in respect to methodology
    • Produce a systematic review of literature for specific topic in business management
    • Critically reflect on own research skills

     

    Outline for Managing Business Research 2
    After completing the module, the student should be able to:

    • Critically evaluate requirements of a Master’s level research issue/problem and design and plan an appropriate research strategy to investigate the problem/issue
    • Critically review literature for a Master’s level research study in business
    • Select appropriate methodological options for a Master’s level research project
    • Demonstrate an understanding of the ethical implications of the proposed research

     

    Outline for Digital Business
    After completing the module, the student should be able to:

    • Develop skills and knowledge to support business analysis and the strategic deployment of web-based solutions
    • Develop a range of digital marketing and advertising tools effectively
    • Evaluate software tools that can be used to maximise a business’s digital customer interactions

     

    Outline for Research Project
    After completing the module, the student should be able to:

    • Select and apply critical management thinking to a technology-related organisational issue or problem, supporting the evaluation with appropriate literature
    • Develop the research approach and critically evaluate the techniques used to investigate an important management issue or problem
    • Synthesize information and data to arrive at a coherent conclusion and recommendations
    • Critically evaluate the strategic implications of the recommendations made

    Entry Requirements

    Academic Level:

    21 years and above

    Applicants should meet one of the following:

    • Possess an undergraduate degree or equivalent, from a recognised university with a minimum of 2:2 classification
    • Possess a professional or equivalent qualification such as:
    • ILM B Tech Advanced Professional Diploma
    • ILM Management Level 6
    • Level 6 qualifications accredited by CIMA/ACCA
    • CISI Level 6
    • CMI Chartered Manager/Level 6 Diploma
    • CMI Level 6 Diploma in Professional Marketing
    • IDM Level 6 Diploma

    Mature candidates must be ≥ 30 years old and have 8 years of working experience.

    English Proficiency: At least an IELTS score of 6.0 or DIMENSIONS’ Certificate in Academic English (CAE) Level 5 OR passed DIMENSIONS’ English Proficiency Test at an equivalent level OR its equivalent

    English Proficiency may be considered to have been met and an IELTS score may not be required if the applicant possesses a highest qualification where English was the sole medium of instruction.
